Fall time is for hot apple cider, pumpkins, doughnuts, boots, sweaters, colorful leaves, and tasty apple crisp. We kicked off this season with a trip to a local orchard for some apple picking– when we walked onto the property and up to the cute little booth, the attendant asked us which option we wanted: the big bag or the even bigger bag. We went with the big bag and proceeded to fill it up with sweet, fresh Jonagold apples.
You guys, we got so many apples that I made everyone who visited our house leave with a bunch of apples. And still! We had so many left, so I pulled out my Spiralizer to easily peel the apples, and then went to town making this yummy Apple Crisp.
Tip: Rather than using a pastry blender or fork, which require patience, I tossed the oatmeal mixture into my Ninja Performance Blender and pulsed the mixture a few times until it formed large crumbs. It’s one more thing to wash, but speeds things up quite a bit.
Overall, this Apple Crisp is pretty easy to make and doesn’t take a super long time to bake, which is good because nobody likes to wait a long time for their tasty treats.
So, in the spirit of not having to wait a long time for tasty treats, this post will end here. Enjoy!
- 8 large apples peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 1/4 cup oatmeal
- 1/2 cup flour
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup butter cut up into 1/4" slices
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and grease a 9x13 pan. When you slice the apples, I recommend slicing them into various widths for texture. Layer the slices into the pan.
- In a medium bowl, combine the brown sugar, oatmeal, flour, cinnamon, and vanilla. Once mixed, cut in the butter using a pastry blender or fork until the mixture forms large crumbs.
- Spread the mixture out on top of the apples and then bake for 30 minutes. Serve alone or with some vanilla ice cream.
